Fragrance fable: Grove

Resting in the shadows of ancient pine trees, damp from the first rainfall in autumn. Fresh notes of pine needle, eucalyptus and silver fir are warmed with a base note of earthy moss.
Fragrance fable: Grove 4

The story:

The arrival of Autumn is the inspiration behind our Grove candle – the unmistakable aroma of clean pine, crisp air and earthy moss as the leaves turn from green to vibrant shades of burgundy and orange.

With a fresh and uplifting scent, the humble pine tree is native across the Northern Hemisphere. Derived from the needles of the tree, its essential oil contains phenols, which act as natural stress relievers.

In the home

The North London home of interior designer, Audrey Carden is the perfect combination of classic and contemporary. Dating back to 1908, she has restored the building’s original features whilst adding a modern twist to bring the house into the 21st century. Here, in one of the bedrooms, she’s used a beautiful dark green paint by Vicalvi in the shade ‘Pine’ to compliment a group of vintage artworks. The earthy but bold tones of this bedroom make it the perfect space to burn our Grove candle.

In travel:

The Scottish Highlands hold some of the most beautiful countryside that the UK has to offer. Braemar is a small village surrounded by the Grampian Mountains and beautiful woodland scenery. The smell of the air in this part of the UK is what inspired the scent of our Grove candle, with its strong notes of pine and earthy moss. Autumn is the best time to visit, when the leaves start to turn and the paths are filled with awe-inspiring colours. If you stay in the same place long enough, you might even get the chance to spot a red stag.

Splash out and stay right in the heart of Braemar at the The Fife Arms – a Victorian coaching inn that’s been imaginatively restored. With large scale Picasso and Freud paintings lining the halls, the Fife Hotel is both opulent and curious.

In literature:

The Secret History is set in New England, USA as the leaves start to fall and the Autumnal air starts to cool. Focusing on the dark side of campus life, the story follows a group of elite college students, misfits in their own right, who are all keeping the same dark secret.

Main character, Richard Papen is catapulted into this elite world of upper class individuals, of which he is not a part. He transfers to Hampden College from California, desperate to escape from his plain and uncaring middle class parents, but after spending time with his new group of friends, a series of lies, betrayals and jealousies begins to divide them and with it, unravel their lives.

The sky above:

Nature loving Aquarians and earth signed Capricorns tend to be emotional over-thinkers and relish a rebalancing and mood boosting time-out in the great outdoors. However, when a relaxing forest walk isn’t on the cards, the next best thing for these signs is to burn our grounding pine and eucalyptus scent whilst taking a little time out to meditate.
